Registered Psychotherapist
Pouya Bakhshaei is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) who supports children, adolescents, and adults in
developing new ways of thinking, increasing psychological flexibility, and moving toward
meaningful change. My goal is not only to guide you through difficult moments, but also to help
you build the insight and skills needed to live independently and confidently beyond therapy.
I hold a Doctor of Medicine degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran
and a Master of Clinical Psychology from Adler Graduate Professional School. I am a member
of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
I work with individuals experiencing anxiety disorders (including social anxiety, panic disorder,
agoraphobia, and generalized anxiety disorder), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD),
attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), grief and
loss, body-focused repetitive behaviours (BFRBs) such as trichotillomania (hair-pulling disorder)
and excoriation (skin-picking disorder), depressive disorders including Major Depressive
Disorder (MDD) and Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD), eating disorders, and challenges
related to perfectionism and self-criticism.
With over ten years of experience as a general physician and additional experience as a life
coach facilitating workshops in the Middle East, I bring a holistic, compassionate, and
integrative perspective to therapy. I believe meaningful change occurs within a trusting, non-
judgmental therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, respected, and supported.
My approach is collaborative, evidence-based, and tailored to each individual. I integrate
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Exposure
and Response Prevention (ERP), Mindfulness, Adlerian Therapy, and Psychodrama. While I
value science and structure, I also believe humor, warmth, and humanity are essential
components of effective therapy.
I am fluent in English and Farsi and offer therapy in both languages.
